In 1983, the founding member of pioneering electronic band Tangerine Dream, Peter Baumann, conceived of a record label that would be a home for a new genre of contemporary music. He recognised a need for a new kind of music to fill the void left by the great bands of the 70's. Those who grew up with The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Steely Dan and The Band, were disenfranchised with the pop and heavy metal of the 80's, as their lives evolved into a new lifestyle. The label was launched in 1985
